Real Estate Brokers and Multi-Tasking
RESAR on Sep 28 2010 | Filed under: General
If you want to become a licensed real estate broker in the Philippines and you love to multi-task… Watch out! You might be damaging your brain. Here’s why…
Your brain is NOT designed for multi-tasking.
And the more you do too many things at once, the more you try to divide your attention among so many different things, the weaker your become. The less focused you end up.
And when the time for true multi-tasking arrives, you become unable to do it well because you damaged yourself in the past.
What does your brain love?
Your mind improves when you focus on doing things for not less than 15 minutes.
If every few minutes you check your cell phone for SMS text messages, or your email inbox for some “urgent” incoming message, or Twitter for the latest “latebreaking” news… My friend, you are weakening your brain.

Learning Strategies For People Reviewing for the PRC Real Estate Brokers’ Licensure Examinations
Here are some tips to improve your real estate brokers exam review:
1. Switch your cell phone to silent mode.
When you are reviewing, you need to remove distractions. And yes, a cell phone that goes teeet-teeet when an incoming SMS text message arrives is very distracting.
Anyway, since you’ll be focusing on your review for 15 minutes, you can take a break and check which other task you will need to do… for 15 minutes straight.
2. Check your email twice a day, at most.
The world will not end if you don’t check your email every 5 minutes. So switch off those auto-alerts in Outlook and all those “You’ve Got Mail!” messages.
Yes, the same goes for “push email” which sends you an SMS alert whenever you have new mail.
Check your email at 10am and at 5pm. That will improve the chances that when you do check your email, you will be focused on it for around 15 minutes.
3. Lock your door.
You can switch off the phone, you can log off from email, you can turn away from Twitter, Facebook, and whatever-ville game is on your screen.
But can you protect yourself from people who love to interrupt you while you’re in the middle of a project, because they want to chat about the latest showbiz news or what’s up in the world of Philippine politics?
During your 15-minute focused work, lock the door.
Or put up a sign near your desk.
Remember, multi-tasking is a myth. The more you do it, the worse off you become. It’s focused work and attention that help strengthen your mind, which means you’ll end up getting more things done.
Study. Focus. Succeed.
We wish you success in your real estate projects and your real estate exam review.
